On 20 October 2021, the 5G IA Working Group on 5G for Connected and Automated Mobility (5G CAM WG), supported by ERTICO and DG CONNECT, organises a workshop focusing on the deployment of 5G networks along major transport paths to enable advanced Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) services.

Europe has set ambitious objectives for 5G deployment in the 5G Action Plan in 2016, and specifically for pan-European 5G Corridors for Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) in the 3rd Mobility Package of 2018. More recently, in the context of the Digital Decade Communication, more ambitious targets were set for full 5G deployment by 2030.

CEF2 Digital is planned to provide financial support of around €1 billion for 5G Corridor deployment over the EU budget period 2021-2027. This will be reinforced by national projects under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).

The main objectives of this workshop are:

  • Allowing all interested stakeholders to contribute to the concepts for 5G Corridor deployment projects under CEF2-Digital and RRF, as well as to discuss underlying cooperation models;
  • Creating visibility and interest for participation in the first CEF2-Digital deployment waves in 2021-2023 calls.

The targeted audience comprises interested parties from telecom operators and vendors, automotive and rail manufacturers and suppliers, transport infrastructure operators, together with their relevant industry associations, to transport authorities, regional and local authorities, as well as actors involved in road safety and security and private and public funding sources.
